Intermediate
Materials:
- Yarn: Scraps of worsted weight yarn in 2 colors.
- Hook: H/8 – 5.00 mm
- Yarn needle
- Scissors
- 2.65 inch plastic bauble ornament
Gauge:
Not essential for this pattern. Simply adjust hook size or bauble size if too big or small
Finished Size:
Fits a 2.65” diameter plastic bauble ornament.
Stitch Abbreviations (US Terminology):
- BLO – Back Loop Only
- ch – Chain
- dec – Decrease
- mc – Magic Circle
- sc – Single Crochet
- sk – Skip
- sl st – Slip Stitch
- yo – Yarn Over
Pattern Notes:
- This pattern is worked in the round, with no turning between rounds.
- Rounds 5-16 are worked into the back loop only (BLO).
- Test fit with the ornament throughout. If you find the bauble is too tight or too loose, then adjust your hook size accordingly. If you tend to have loose tension when you crochet, you may need to go down a hook size to make this bauble, or simply buy a bigger bauble to make your finished size.
- For a tighter fit, you may start decreasing earlier (Ex: Round 12). Simply make sure you stop with Color A after a sl st round.
Instructions:
Round 1: With Color A, make a mc, sc x 9 in mc, sl st to join. (9 sc)
Round 2: 2 sc in each st around, sl st to join.. (18 sc)
Round 3: *2 sc, sc,* around, sl st to join.. (27 sc)
Round 4: *2 sc, sc x2,* around, sl st to join.. (36 sc)
Round 5: With Color B, sl st in BLO around, sl st to join. (36 BLO sl st)
Round 6: Sc in BLO in each st around, sl st to join. (36 BLOsc)
Rounds 7-8: With Color A, repeat Rounds 5-6
Rounds 9-15: Repeat Rounds 5-8, ending with a sl st round with Color A.
Round 16: *2 BLOsc, BLO dec,* around, sl st to join. (27 sc)
Insert Bauble
Round 17: *Sc, dec,* around, sl st to join. (18 sc)
Round 18: Dec in each st around, sl st to join. (9 sc)
Fasten off with a long tail.
With yarn needle, weave tail along one edge around.
Pull the tail tight to close the around the top of bauble.
Leave tail inside.
